  • Crypto market sees over $2 billion in liquidations.
  • Bitcoin drops below $93,000 before recovering to $95,000.
  • Cardano (ADA) loses more than 18% in value.
  • Over 700,000 traders impacted by market volatility.

The cryptocurrency market experienced one of its most significant drops in recent times, with over USD $2 billion in liquidations. This event has left more than 700,000 traders facing the repercussions of a highly volatile market. But what exactly triggered this massive sell-off?

According to CoinGecko data, the total crypto market cap dropped 11.4% to USD $3.17 trillion in just 24 hours, illustrating the magnitude of this event.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin, the flagship cryptocurrency, saw its value plummet below USD $93,000 before stabilizing around USD $95,000. The recent drop was largely attributed to global concerns over a potential trade war, following announcements of new tariffs by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Investors are on edge, questioning how these new tariffs might influence inflation and, consequently, cryptocurrency valuations.

Altcoins Under Pressure

It wasn’t just Bitcoin that felt the heat. Altcoins, including Cardano (ADA), have been hit hard, with ADA seeing a reversal of more than 18%. This bloodbath among altcoins suggests a broader market correction, where investors might be reevaluating their risk exposure.

The significant drop in ADA could be indicative of a shift in investor confidence or a necessary correction after speculative growth.

Other major altcoins like Ethereum (ETH) and Dogecoin (DOGE) also experienced substantial losses, with some dropping by over 20% in the last 24 hours.

The Ripple Effect on Traders

The scale of liquidations points to a high level of leverage use in the crypto market. When prices fall, leveraged positions can lead to forced sales or “liquidations,” which exacerbate the downward price movement.

  • Leverage Risks: Traders using high leverage are particularly vulnerable during such sharp market declines.
