El Salvador Bitcoin Holdings Surpass 7,800 BTC as Portfolio Valuation Nears $850 Million
El Salvador’s state-owned bitcoin treasury has crossed 7,800 BTC, bringing its total portfolio value close to $850 million amid market rallies.
- El Salvador’s official bitcoin treasury has officially surpassed 7,800 BTC, reflecting ongoing daily purchases.
- At current market prices, the Central American nation’s sovereign crypto portfolio is valued at approximately $848.7 million.
- President Nayib Bukele continues to uphold the country’s controversial strategy, which began with legal tender adoption in September 2021.
El Salvador has expanded its sovereign crypto treasury, with state-tracked data confirming that its reserves have officially surpassed 7,800 BTC. The milestone underscores the ongoing commitment of President Nayib Bukele’s administration to accumulate the digital asset despite initial international skepticism and volatility.
According to real-time on-chain metrics and the Nayib Tracker portal, the nation’s portfolio now sits at roughly 7,810 BTC. Based on current market valuations hovering near $108,000 per coin, El Salvador’s total holdings are valued at approximately $848.7 million, yielding substantial unrealized gains for the state balance sheet.
The sovereign accumulation strategy has evolved significantly since El Salvador made history in September 2021 by becoming the first country to adopt bitcoin as legal tender. Initially, the government purchased 1 bitcoin per day under an automated accumulation plan announced by President Bukele in late 2022. Beyond direct treasury purchases, the country has also generated revenue through its national Volcano Energy mining pool initiative, which leverages geothermal energy to power ASIC rigs.
Despite macroeconomic warnings from institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding the fiscal risks of holding a volatile asset on government books, the administration has doubled down on its digital asset roadmap. In addition to treasury reserves, El Salvador has advanced regulatory frameworks for bitcoin-backed digital bonds, often referred to as “Volcano Bonds,” aimed at paying down sovereign debt and funding infrastructure development.
Market participants and institutional crypto investors continue to monitor El Salvador’s wallet addresses as a unique case study in sovereign wealth management. With global adoption trends shifting and traditional financial institutions rolling out spot exchange-traded funds, El Salvador’s early-mover strategy places it among the most prominent state-level holders of digital assets globally.
