Crypto Market Analysis This Week

| CryptoPress |

Bitcoin ended the week of 5 to 11 October 2026 at about $83,773, down roughly 3% (Binance daily data via CoinLab; Bitwise puts the drop nearer 2.6%), its first losing week in four. The slide ran from Tuesday to Thursday and bottomed at $80,394 on 8 October before a three-day rebound. On Monday 12 October BTC trades around $84,000 and the total crypto market cap is about $2.82 trillion, with Bitcoin dominance near 59.5% and the Fear & Greed index at 69 (Greed), up from 59 on Friday. The pressure came from spot ETF outflows, a hawkish Fed and oil near $105 Brent. Data below is a snapshot as of the morning of 12 October.

Outflows, liquidations and a macro squeeze

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs lost about $681 million over the five sessions to 9 October (SoSoValue data via CoinLab and CoinDesk; SmallDrift calculates $678.9 million from Farside figures), the worst week since June. Wednesday alone was about -$487 million. Ether ETFs shed about $542 million, with no inflow day since 28 September, and Solana ETFs snapped a 14-week inflow streak with about $24.8 million of outflows (per CoinLab). About $1.09 billion of crypto positions were liquidated in the 24 hours to 10:00 UTC on 9 October, almost all longs (CoinGlass data via CoinLab).

Macro leaned against risk. The minutes of the September Fed meeting showed most participants expect one more rate hike before year-end, Brent touched $105.88 on Wednesday on Iran tension, and the 30-year Treasury yield hit 5.73% intraday on Thursday (CoinLab). Oil eased after President Trump said the U.S. would not attack Iran before the 3 November midterms, per the same report. Leverage has since cooled: Bitcoin implied volatility is struggling to move above 40% after bouncing from year-to-date lows near 34%, and long and short taker flow is back near balance (CoinDesk).

Key numbers (snapshot, 12 October 2026)

  • BTC: week open $86,530, high $86,999 (Monday 5 Oct), low $80,394 (Thursday 8 Oct), close $83,773; about $84,192 on Binance Monday morning (CoinLab; SmallDrift).
  • ETH: $2,727 to $2,537 on the week (-7.0%), about $2,570 on Monday; ETH/BTC down 3.9% (CoinLab; SmallDrift).
  • SOL -8.4% (about $111), XRP -7.3% (about $1.41), BNB -5.2% (about $755 on Monday) (CoinLab; SmallDrift).
  • Best and worst large caps: NEAR +19.9% to about $5.90; UNI -14.4% and BCH -10.2% (CoinLab).
  • Stablecoin market cap about $313.0 billion, -0.3% on the week (DefiLlama via CoinLab).

Positive, neutral and negative signals

Positive 📈

  • Bitcoin recovered about half of its drop and Sunday’s daily close was back above the 20-day average (CoinLab).
  • Leverage was flushed: Binance BTC futures open interest fell about 8.8% on the week and funding is near zero (CoinLab).
  • Starknet’s STRK more than doubled in about three days after StarkWare backed an independent, quantum-resistant Layer 1 as its preferred path (CryptoWatchDesk; CryptoSlate).
  • Smaller tokens led Monday’s bounce: the CoinDesk 80 was up about 3% in 24 hours, ahead of the CoinDesk 5 (CoinDesk).

Neutral ⚖️

  • Evernorth, a treasury company holding about 473 million XRP, starts trading on Nasdaq on 12 October as XRPN (CoinLab).
  • The XRP Ledger patched a decade-old bug that could have minted XRP out of thin air (CryptoPress).
  • The FSB warned that cross-border stablecoin rules remain untested in a severe market crisis, in a letter to G20 finance ministers (CoinDesk; FSB).
  • Thailand’s SEC finalized rules for spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs, effective 16 October (CoinLab).

Negative 📉

  • Spot ETF outflows hit Bitcoin, Ether and Solana funds in the same week (CoinLab).
  • Ledger confirmed an unauthorized hardware implant in at least one device sold by the reseller CryptoBilis; third-party loss estimates run from about $72 million to $93 million and Ledger has not verified them (CoinDesk; Cointelegraph; Crypto Briefing).
  • Altcoins fell about twice as hard as Bitcoin, and every major low came on Thursday 8 October (CoinLab).
  • Weekend trading volume was thin, so the rebound has little confirmation yet (CoinLab).

What to watch this week

The next test is U.S. CPI on Wednesday 14 October at 8:30 AM ET. The consensus is 3.6% year on year, and a hotter print would raise rate-hike odds and pressure yields (CoinLab). PPI and retail sales follow on Thursday. Deribit lists a 15,237 BTC options expiry on Friday 16 October with max pain at $83,000, and the next FOMC meeting is 27 and 28 October (CoinLab).

Levels traders are watching: support at $82,500, then $80,394 and the 50-day average near $80,200; resistance at $84,200 to $84,300, $85,000 to $85,500 and the weekly high of $86,999 (CoinLab). Bitwise notes Bitcoin has spent weeks around the average ETF cost basis near $83,000, which it treats as the key decision point (Bitwise). A hold above it with ETF inflows returning would support the rebound; a hot CPI print and renewed outflows would put $80,000 back in play.
