Amazon’s Bitcoin Dilemma: A New Era for Corporate Finance?
Amazon shareholders, through the National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR), have proposed a bold move: allocate at least 5% of the company’s vast assets into Bitcoin. This isn’t just a whisper in the boardroom; it’s a loud call for change, echoing the strategy adopted by companies like MicroStrategy.
The National Center for Public Policy Research has submitted the attached shareholder proposal to https://t.co/Lve7Kg1nVI, Inc. for consideration at the 2025 annual shareholder meeting.

Why Bitcoin for Amazon’s Treasury?
The proposal argues that integrating Bitcoin into Amazon’s balance sheet could serve as an effective hedge against inflation, something that traditional cash reserves have struggled with in recent years. With inflation rates in the US averaging 4.95% over the last four years, the purchasing power of cash has significantly diminished. Bitcoin, on the other hand, has shown a remarkable performance, with a 131% increase in the last year alone.
MicroStrategy, under the leadership of Michael Saylor, has become the poster child for corporate Bitcoin adoption. Holding 402,100 BTC, they’ve not only diversified their treasury but have also seen their stock outperform Amazon’s by a significant margin. This success story is what NCPPR is banking on when urging Amazon to rethink its asset strategy.
The proposal suggests that such a move could maximize shareholder value in the long term, mirroring the success seen by MicroStrategy, which experienced a 537% stock surge partly due to its Bitcoin holdings.
The Microsoft Precedent
This isn’t the first rodeo for NCPPR. They’ve previously pushed Microsoft to consider Bitcoin investments, with a vote scheduled for this week. However, Microsoft’s board has recommended a vote against this proposal, citing current evaluations of various investment options, including cryptocurrencies.
