An Argentine deputy criticizes the IMF for discouraging cryptocurrencies
The Argentine deputy for the province of Mendoza, José Luis Ramón, criticized through his Twitter account the will of the IMF to “discourage” the use of cryptocurrencies as part of the understanding with Argentina.
The IMF has asked Argentina to stop using Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to avoid possible problems that may arise from their use. The institution also recommended that the country establish a legal framework to regulate this type of digital currency.
The representative of Together for Change is one of the active voices that questions the agreement between the government of Alberto Fernández and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He came to consider that it will be a “disaster” for Argentina.
In this sense, he assured that there are clauses in the contract with the IMF in which it is established that cryptocurrencies are not contemplated, since “they hinder their ability to control the creation of money.”
In addition, he pointed out that “the intention” of this international organization is to prevent people from having access to other means of payment, “which will result in a disaster.”
Eso plantea la disposición: Fortalecimiento de la resiliencia financiera. Digamos que los métodos para prevenir todo lo que dicen no es desalentar el uso de las criptomonedas, si no aggiornarse a los tiempos. In particular, Ramón expressed his disapproval with a tweet in which he said: “They want us to stop using cryptocurrency… In Mendoza we will lead a debate on this issue.” He added that it seems to him an unfair demand on the part of the IMF.
In this context, Ramón disagreed by pointing out that: “The Argentine people do not want or need a monetary authority that discourages the use of cryptocurrencies or any new technology.”
He also pointed out that: “It is the private sector itself, which has been working on bitcoin since 2009, which must decide whether they are useful or not.”
“If there is one thing we can learn from the history of Argentina, it is that central bankers can cause all kinds of problems”

For Ramón, it is clear that: “If we should learn anything from Argentina’s history, it is that central bankers can cause all kinds of problems”.

It is not in vain that Deputy Ramón has become one of the main voices in favor of the regulation of cryptocurrencies in Argentina. The legislator said that he will present a project to regulate virtual currencies before the end of the year. The initiative would grant legal certainty to cryptocurrencies and their users, and would also allow the State to enforce the collection of taxes on these currencies.
It is not the first time that the deputy has spoken in favor of cryptocurrencies. In 2021, Ramón presented a project so that workers in a dependency relationship and those who export services can choose to receive all or part of their salary in cryptocurrencies.
