  • Research suggests Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter and CEO of Block, might be Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin’s creator, based on recent theories.
  • Evidence includes Dorsey’s cryptography background, date coincidences, and a comic book inspired by him with a secret identity theme.
  • Dorsey has denied being Satoshi Nakamoto, and the theory remains speculative with no definitive proof.
  • The debate is ongoing, with some finding the evidence compelling and others viewing it as circumstantial.

Have you ever wondered who created Bitcoin, known as Satoshi Nakamoto? A new theory is making waves, pointing to Jack Dorsey, the tech mogul behind Twitter and Block.

Background on Satoshi Nakamoto and the Mystery

Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, introduced the cryptocurrency in a 2008 white paper and launched the network on January 3, 2009, with the mining of the Genesis Block. The first transaction, from Satoshi to Hal Finney, occurred on January 12, 2009, for 10 bitcoins (First Bitcoin Transaction).

Satoshi’s last public post was on December 12, 2010, and last email on April 26, 2011, leaving the identity a mystery that has fueled numerous speculations.

This theory, sparked by Sean Murray, editor-in-chief of deBanked, suggests that Jack Dorsey could be Satoshi Nakamoto. Murray’s X post on February 15, 2025, listed several pieces of evidence, including Dorsey’s early interest in cryptography during his university days and his involvement in the cypherpunk movement. For instance, a 1996 yearbook photo shows Dorsey wearing a T-shirt referencing Adam Back’s RSA encryption, a key figure in cryptography linked to Bitcoin’s development.

Another point is date coincidences: Bitcoin’s first transaction on January 12, 2009, is close to Dorsey’s mother’s birthday on January 11, and Satoshi’s last block mined is claimed to be on March 5, 2010, which aligns with Dorsey’s father’s birthday, though exact verification is tricky.

Additionally, the comic book “Hacktivist,” inspired by Dorsey and featuring a character with a secret hacker identity, adds to the speculation. Lastly, Block’s Q1 2024 shareholder letter crediting Satoshi’s strategy is seen as potentially linking back to Dorsey if he is Satoshi.

However, Dorsey has denied being Satoshi Nakamoto. In an April 2020 interview with Lex Fridman, he said, “No, and if I were, would I tell you?” This denial is a significant counterpoint. Critics also argue that the evidence is circumstantial and lacks definitive proof, and some believe associating individuals with Satoshi without confirmation is irresponsible and could pose personal risks.

Why It Matters

If true, this would connect a major tech figure to Bitcoin’s creation, potentially impacting how we view its development. But given the denial and lack of proof, it remains a theory, and Bitcoin’s value lies in its decentralized nature, regardless of Satoshi’s identity.

Dorsey’s denial and lack of definitive proof. As of February 26, 2025, the debate continues, reflecting the enduring mystery of Bitcoin’s creator and the community’s fascination with uncovering it.
