The Liberty Project and Polkadot join forces to advance the vision of Web3

| CryptoPress

The new collaboration harnesses the power of Polkadot technology to promote the Decentralized Social Network Protocol (DSNP) in Project Liberty as the core social layer of the internet of the future.

Madrid, May 24, 2022  – The technology teams behind  Project Liberty and Polkadot have reached a formal agreement to collaborate on the first implementation of the Decentralized Social Network Protocol ( DSNP ). Frank McCourt, founder of Project Liberty, and Gavin Wood, founder of Polkadot with the  Web3 Foundation, intend to develop this innovative open source Internet protocol to become the core social layer of the next generation of the Internet. This collaboration is based on the common goal of building a more equitable, user-centric, and socially conscious network; This represents an important first step in enabling low-cost, high-performance social networking at scale for millions of users.

“We are very happy to work with Gavin and his team to make our vision of a healthier web a reality,” said Frank McCourt, founder of Project Liberty, who adds  “they are the innovative pioneers, and we came together because our values are aligned on how the internet should be restructured in a way that empowers users, benefits society and strengthens democracy”.

This work lays the groundwork for a new digital age in which social network users will be able to own, control and benefit from their personal data.

“Web 3.0 needs a universally accessible social diagram to be successful, as the Web 2.0 social giants currently have complete control over what users can say or do on their platforms,”  said Gavin Wood. “Project Liberty and the DSNP protocol present a clear path towards providing this crucial service. We are delighted to work with partners who share our vision and values, and hope that others will join our efforts to create a fairer foundation for the Internet.”

The DSNP was developed to function as a public service and provide a more equitable and inclusive infrastructure for the next generation of the web. It is an open source protocol that establishes a shared social graph that is no longer dependent on a specific application or centralized platform, and is controlled and governed by its users. DSNP is a central part of Project Liberty, which seeks to accelerate the global transition to an open and inclusive data economy, transferring the power of platforms to people.

“With almost three years of development and a working implementation of DSNP, we are now ready to implement social functionality as a core element of our own on the Internet,”  said technologist Braxton Woodham, creator of DSNP. “Polkadot has a unique architecture that enables DSNP implementation at scale, with economics that will support sustainable alternatives to current business models driven by the surveillance economy.”

To learn more about the partnership, we invite you to connect to the live panel “What will it take to build a better web?” which will feature the participation of Frank McCourt and Gavin Wood, moderated by Andy Serwer, Editor-in-Chief of Yahoo Finance, to be held on Tuesday, May 24 at 2pm CET / 8am ET, via   Polkadot  ‘s YouTube channel and Twitter .

About Project Liberty

Project Liberty is working to engage diverse voices and equip them with the critical infrastructure needed to catalyze change. The technology team behind Project Liberty has developed an innovative open source protocol called the Decentralized Social Network Protocol (DSNP) to serve as a new infrastructure for the next generation of the web. Project Liberty is also bringing together networks of organizations seeking change, including the formation of the McCourt Institute, to help ensure that digital governance is prioritized in the development of new technologies.
